About once a week, I get a complaining e-mail from a user that states "Stop sending me two E-mails" or "Stop wasting my bandwidth" or sometimes they are friendlier and say "Just to let you know ....."
At any rate, these all have the same question/comment. People get two e-mails in their inbox, and it would be natural to think that we sent them two e-mails.
I personally wrote the program that sends out our hundreds of thousands of e-mails. I've make a lot of mistakes, don't get me wrong. In fact - so many people brought this up, that I thought something somewhere may actually be sending e-mails in duplicate. So here's what I did. I now log every email being sent to a log file, when it was created, and when it physically gets sent, and leaves our servers on it's way to you in box. To this day, I have never found a duplicate.
So why would people get multiple e-mails from kbAlertz.com? I have figured out a couple of ways, but I'm sure there are many more.
- One of the emails is a Weekly Summary, and it's not really a duplicate.
- People are signed up with 2 accounts, to the same technology. Obvious reason to get 2 e-mails. Check the e-mail addresses that the kbAlertz.com e-mail was sent to.
- Outlook rules. Does your kbAlertz.com e-mail automatically get moved to a folder in Outlook? If so, it's possible that the rule creates a copy, and you end up with duplicates.
- A million servers and processing rules touch your e-mail between my server and your e-mail in box. It's possible that one of those processes is creating a copy, and it's being sent to you.
Finally, I'll make a deal with you. If you can't figure out why you're getting multiple e-mails, and you think it may be because we're sending multiples to you, I will do the research. It only takes about 10 minutes, because of the handy log files, and I'll look it up for you. If I find a duplicate, you're off the hook. If I don't you'll owe me $5.00 :)
