BUG FIX: 24 FEB 2004 Weekly Summary Being Repeated

On February 17th, kbAlertz.com started running an new service called weekly announcements. This was actually an original feature from last year, that died. For about a year, only daily announcements were going out. Even if you subscribed to weekly announcements, you still got a daily announcement.

This was do to nothing more then the lack of programming time on our part. So finally, in early February 2004, we re-created the weekly summaries. Everything was working fine, until we started getting word, that the same weekly summaries were going out over and over. How could that be? Hmmmm, mystery in the kbAlertz.com database. Surely this isn't something we've done on purpose. (Of course not, and don't call me Shirley :).

So any time something happens that affects as many people as this, we feel really bad. So bad that it causes us to miss work at our day jobs, and make those people mad. Anyway, when you finally get to the bottom of everything, the algorithm I wrote (see the ownership of responsibility here ;) was off by seven days. So basically everyone was getting the same weekly reports over and over. I've ran a couple tests, and hopefully the problem is solved.

I've learned not to guarantee the problem is solved, because you never know, what you don't know. After all, I wrote the algorithm the first time, and thought it was right then. Fortunately I'm not launching rockets to the moon or anything that important, I'm allowed a little human arrer (misspelling pun intended).

We try hard to get you the kbAlertz.com articles in a timely matter, but sometimes we screw up just like everyone. So we formally (or I formally) apologize to anyone that annoyingly received the same weekly reminder more then once this week.
